Collegiate sprint champion Amandi Rhett from Willingboro, NJ broke
a 20 year-old record on Saturday during the second preliminary meet
of the nation's largest track series, the Colgate Women's Games.
The 23 year-old track star beat her personal best as she shattered
Diane Dixon's 1986 Colgate Women's Games record of 6.85 with a 6.6
performance. Last week Rhett ran a very fast 6.8, but hand-time
conversions fell short of Dixon's electronically timed score. This
week, Meet Director Fred Thompson said standard conversions confirm
that Rhett has broken the College/Open 55 meters record. On Friday
evening in the High School division, newcomer Feyisara Adaramoia of
the Bronx continued to dominate the 55 meters, repeating last
week's outstanding 6.9 performance for first place. Channel Smith
of Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Maryland also remains in first
place after her 25.6 run in the 200 meters. Thompson said family
and fans at Pratt have seen some of the fastest young sprinters in
the nation at the top of their game this year. He adds, "It's great
that the Games showcase this level of talent, but we're even more
pleased that our elementary and mid school divisions have grown so
large. Athletes are not born in High School." Four preliminary
events and a semi-finals are held at Pratt throughout January with
top winners from each age/grade division advancing to the finals at
Madison Square Garden on February 4, 2006 where they will compete
for trophies and educational grants-in-aid from Colgate-Palmolive
Company. Follow scores of all top competitors and request free
