                    AWG PLC APPOINTS GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE                     

The Board of AWG Plc today announces that Jonson Cox has been appointed Group
Chief Executive with effect from mid January 2004.

Mr Cox (47) is currently chief executive of Valpak Ltd, a business service
provider to the retail and manufacturing sectors. He gained experience in the
water sector as a main board director of Kelda Group Plc from 1994 to 2000. He
was also managing director of Yorkshire Water, part of Kelda Plc from 1997 to
2000. He subsequently became chief operating officer of Railtrack Plc from 2000
to 2001. In his early career he had a number of management roles within Shell
from 1979 to 1992.

Commenting on the appointment, Peter Hickson, chairman of AWG Plc said, "We are
delighted to have secured Jonson as our group chief executive. His experience
of regulation, asset management and corporate strategy, notably in the water
industry, give him an excellent foundation for taking the leadership role at
AWG."

Chairman of Valpak, Rt Hon John Gummer MP said, "I am naturally sorry to be
losing Jonson, who has done an excellent job for us over the last 18 months.
However, as an MP for a constituency within the Anglian Water region, I am
delighted with Jonson's appointment and wish him well".
