BERLIN--Germany's Bilfinger SE said Thursday it is investigating allegations that employees of a subsidiary of the German engineering group made improper payments of less than 1 million euros ($1.09 million).

Employees of a Brazilian subsidiary of the group may have bribed public officials and employees of state companies in connection with the supply of monitor walls for security control centers in several large municipalities in the country, the company said. The order had a volume of approximately EUR6 million.

Bilfinger found the suspicious payments by looking at accounting transactions over the past years. The company said it had informed the relevant Brazilian authority, Controladoria-Geral da União. Bilfinger will provide CGU with the results of its internal investigation when it has been completed, the company said.
