eMagin Corporation (AMEX:EMA), a leader in personal display systems
and technologies, is supplying SVGA 3D OLED microdisplays for
NordicNeuroLab's new VisualSystem. The VisualSystem product
provides true 3D visual stimuli for fMRI (functional magnetic
resonance imaging) applications. fMRI, based on the discovery that
magnetic resonance imaging can be used to map changes in brain
fluid flow and chemical changes that correspond to human brain
function, is becoming the diagnostic method of choice for learning
how a normal, diseased, or injured brain is working, as well as for
assessing the potential risks of surgery. Future applications
include the mapping of pain areas in the brain. According to an
analysis by Alta Biomedical Group LLC for the Washington Technology
Center, over 18 million MRI procedures are performed annually in
the US. According to Dr. Tormod Thomsen, Managing Director,
NordicNeuroLabs, "Studies show that visual stimulation for fMRI
measurements are more reliable with direct input through video
goggles than with the conventional use of projection screens.
eMagin's OLED microdisplays provide the contrast, color, and 3D
capability to deliver the convincing visual stimuli required."
Designed with both the patient and operator in mind,
NordicNeuroLab's new VisualSystem can be mounted easily on top of
most modern head coils. Its adjustable arm allows fast positioning
of the microdisplays into the preferred angle of view, and
differences in pupil distance and dioptric correction are also
easily adjustable. The VisualSystem features a unique optical setup
to enlarge images generated by small, precision image OLED
displays, and projects images to the patient's eyes without use of
fiber cables and risk of dead or grey pixels. "Readily accessible
3D imagery has proven to be highly useful for several fast growing
medical applications," noted Susan Jones, chief marketing and
strategy officer, eMagin Corporation. "What NordicNeuroLabs has
accomplished with their VisualSystem demonstrates the kind of
creativity that's making medical instruments more accurate,
effective and flexible." About NordicNeuroLab With over 10 years of
fMRI-experience, NordicNeuroLab manufactures and supplies
high-quality products for functional imaging. Its product line
features a seamlessly integrated set of software and hardware
components that can also be used separately to simplify the complex
operations required by functional magnetic resonance imaging. All
of NordicNeuroLab's products have been designed and developed in
close cooperation with both research and clinical groups. The
company provides exceptional customer support, using customer
feedback to continue to develop optimal products. NordicNeuroLab
has also custom developed novel solutions, ranging from
customer-specified technical solutions to development and
programming of fMRI-experiments. For further information, please

personal display systems and OLED microdisplay technologies, eMagin
integrates high-resolution OLED microdisplays, magnifying optics,
and systems technologies to create a virtual image that appears
comparable to that of a computer monitor or a large-screen
television. eMagin's OLED displays have broad market reach and are
incorporated into a variety of near-to-eye imaging products by
military, industrial, medical and consumer OEMs, who choose
eMagin's award-winning technology as a core component for their
solutions. eMagin's first personal display system, the Z800
3DVisor, provides superb 3D stereovision and headtracking for PC
gaming, training and simulation, and other applications. It won the
CEA's Innovation of Year award in the digital display category and
won additional recognition in the electronic gaming category.
eMagin's microdisplay manufacturing and R&D operations are
co-located with IBM on its campus in East Fishkill, New York.
System design facilities and sales and marketing are located in
Bellevue, Washington. A sales office is located in Tokyo, Japan.
