Hardware Video Engine for Consumer Electronic Devices Enables On2
VP6, VP7 Video Playback at Up to D1 Resolutions CLIFTON PARK, N.Y.
and SEOUL, South Korea, April 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- On2
Technologies (NYSE Amex: ONT), a leader in video compression
solutions, and Boo-Ree Multimedia today announced the availability
of On2 Video playback on the Boo-Ree Tachyon-I multimedia
processor. The Tachyon-I uses two ARM(R) 926-EJ processor cores to
play On2 VP6 & VP7 encoded video in devices such as mobiles
phone, personal media players, television set-top boxes and more.
The Tachyon is a multi-format solution and, in addition to VP6 and
VP7, able to play H.264, Widows Media, Real Video and other
formats. The Tachyon-I operates at clock speeds of up to 533MHz and
is fabricated using a 65 nanometer low-power process. It supports
Microsoft Windows Embedded/Mobile and Google Android operating
systems. On2 VP6 Format Fast Becoming a Required Format for CE
Devices On2 VP6, through its inclusion in the Adobe Flash and Sun
JavaFX application platforms, has become the video format of choice
on popular sites including Hulu, NYTimes.com, CNN, Vimeo,
Dailymotion, Toudou and 56.com, making VP6 playback a fundamental
requirement for Internet-connected devices. "The Boo-Ree Tachyon-I
marks an important milestone for On2," said Matt Frost, COO and
interim CEO of On2 Technologies. "We are now able to provide
high-performance hardware playback of VP6 and VP7 to device
manufacturers," Frost continued. "Currently, consumers can only
watch high-resolution online content on a desktop PC. With the
Tachyon-I, they will be able to play that content on a phone,
personal media player, set-top box or other low-power device, at
full resolution and framerate." "The Tachyon-I hardwired video
engines make it simple to play Flash video content (FLV) from any
UGC or television website on mobile Internet devices," said Ricky
Kim, Ph.D., CEO of Boo-Ree Multimedia. "To reinforce our technical
partnership with On2, we'll continue to roll out On2's video
formats through our embedded SoC solutions roadmap to satisfying
requirements from OEMs and ODMs." About On2 Technologies On2 (NYSE
