RAE Systems Inc. (NYSE Amex: RAE) today announced it once again
provided equipment and expertise to the local, state and federal
security forces tasked with keeping more than 103,000 attendees to
Super Bowl XLV safe.
With capabilities that provide around-the-clock monitoring for
deadly atmospheric-gas releases and other potential attacks, RAE
Systems' gas- and radiation-detection equipment has been used as an
early warning system for public-safety threats at past Super Bowl
championship games.
This year's Super Bowl, held at the new Cowboy Stadium in
Arlington, Texas, drew near record-breaking crowds and required a
security plan that covered the cities of Arlington and Dallas,
where many of the event attendees were staying. Security for the
event was provided through multi-jurisdictional agencies, including
Texas state police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI).
"Due to the need to cover both the Arlington and Dallas areas,
RAE Systems' wireless gas- and radiation-detection monitors
protected a larger area this year than in past Super Bowls," said
Thomas Nègre, RAE Systems' vice president of marketing. "RAE
Systems also provided a small team, including four hazmat
technicians from other Texas-area fire departments, to support the
comprehensive security effort."
The RAE Systems' team provided recommendations on setting up
detection equipment, including at the mobile command center. The
instruments included AreaRAE wireless multi-gas-detection monitors
and ProRAE Guardian monitoring, management and control software. A
host of portable instruments, such as the MultiRAE Plus, were also
deployed in advance of, and during, the event.
Real-Time Monitoring of Threat Risks
Remote monitoring provides a key advancement by allowing security
and response teams to monitor fixed and portable monitors at venues
from up to two miles (3.2km) away. It also can use the Internet to
communicate the information beyond the two-mile wireless range to
reach offsite command centers or remote experts worldwide.
The AreaRAE wireless multi-gas detection system provides
detection for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and comes with a
lower explosive limit (LEL) combustible gas sensor, an oxygen
sensor and two electrochemical toxic sensors to measure specific
toxic substances. The AreaRAE Steel Gamma includes a sensor for
measurement of gamma radiation in addition to VOC detection, LEL
and O2 sensors, and a selectable electrochemical toxic sensor.
ProRAE Guardian software provides mobile command center
functionality with comprehensive real-time display of gas and
radiation data at any time and from any location, giving commanders
rapid access to threat-detection information for fast and better
decision-making, and quick responses to alarms. The software fully
supports cascade and continuous-operation modes, and can remotely
track up to 500 wireless monitors at one time.
RAE Systems' wireless systems and instruments also support
security efforts at other high profile public-venue events, such as
the National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star Games, the XXI
Olympic Winter Games, and U.S. presidential inaugurations.
