Hereward successful in application for two permit areas in Serbia
High potential for further gold discoveries
Hereward Ventures plc is pleased to announce that its wholly owned Serbian
subsidiary company, based in Belgrade, has been informed by the Serbian Ministry
for Mining and Energy that it has been granted two prospecting permits located
in the Lece Mining District of southern Serbia, namely Ivan Kula and Tulare,
covering 100 and 50 square kilometres respectively.
Serbia is believed to be one of the remaining new frontiers for mineral
exploration in Europe, being the last of the former communist countries to
re-open its doors to investment from foreign companies. Already hosting several
world-class mineral deposits, Hereward believes the potential for new
discoveries is high and that the Company has a strategic advantage being the
first European company to obtain prospecting rights in Serbia in recent times.
Speaking today, Managing Director Mr David Bramhill said "We believe the two
permit areas have excellent exploration and development potential as they are
located in a large epithermal district where relatively little exploration has
occurred using modern methods and concepts."
The Ivan Kula permit is located within the northern part of the Lece Mining
District and contains the following prospects:
* Polymetallic mineralization occurring in a quartz-breccia zone
approximately 800 metres in length and varying from 5 to 10 metres in width.
According to earlier explorations, resources are estimated at 800,000 tonnes
averaging 9 g/t gold (Au). The zone is open on strike and at depth.
* Numerous quartz-breccia zones have been identified to date within a
main mineralized zone traced for some 500 metres. Seven drillholes have been
completed by the State and have returned results averaging 20 g/t Au over
intervals of 1 to10 metres.
* A quartz-breccia zone which has returned 3.7 g/t Au over 150 metres
along strike whilst a further unexplored zone awaits investigation.
* Other quartz-breccia zones which have returned between 1-3 g/t Au from
preliminary sampling. This includes a quartz vein traced for 1,500 metres with
an average width of 2 metres returning average values of 5 g/t Au.
The Tulare permit is located within the southern sector of the Lece Mining
District and was previously explored by the State for copper. The permit area
also contains known gold prospects:
* Porphyry gold-copper mineralization was identified and historical
resource estimates in respect of this area are 150Mt grading 0.38 g/t
Au. Higher grade zones have also been identified and only partially
investigated, including a zone containing 13Mt @ 0.47 g/t Au. Other
porphyry systems remain untested.
* At several localities gold and silver mineralization occurs within
hydrothermal quartz-breccia zones up to 2,000 metres in length and up to 4
metres wide.
* At a further locality epithermal-type disseminated gold and silver
mineralization is seen over a surface area of approximately 1,000 metres
by 500 metres, where no previous exploration has been conducted.
The award of these Serbian permits has advanced Hereward's expansion strategy in
the Balkan states, an area where management has extensive expertise. The
Company continues to evaluate other attractive mineral opportunities in the
region to add, in the medium term, significant value to the Company's asset
base.
