SABMiller PLC (SAB.JO) said Wednesday it intends to appoint Ari Mervis as chief executive of Foster's Group Ltd. following its 9.9 billion Australian dollar (US$10.2 billion) takeover of the Australian brewer.

SABMiller said in a statement that Mervis, who is currently the company's managing director in Asia, will also become managing director of Asia Pacific operations.

"He is ideally qualified to lead the integration of Foster's into the SABMiller group and to deliver value from the acquisition for all stakeholders," SABMiller Chief Executive Graham Mackay said in a statement.

Outgoing Foster's Chief Executive John Pollaers will step down from the position on Dec. 16, SABMiller said, but would be available to "provide advice" to SABMiller to ensure a smooth transition.
