MELBOURNE, Australia--Internet-services provider TPG Telecom
Ltd. (TPM.AU) has struck deals worth more than 1 billion Australian
dollars (US$698.4 million) to expand Vodafone Hutchison Australia's
transmission network and to migrate its mobile-phone customers to
the Vodafone network.
Under one agreement, TPG said Wednesday it would provide
so-called dark fiber and network services to more than 3,000
Vodafone Australia sites over a 15-year term. That will require TPG
to extend its existing fiber infrastructure with the construction
of about 4,000 kilometers of new fiber to Vodafone sites across the
country.
The two companies said they also have signed one of the
industry's largest-ever "mobile virtual network operator"
agreements to move TPG's mobile wholesale customer base to
Vodafone's network, which offers substantially faster data
speeds.
