                      RETIREMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

AEA Technology plc (AEA) announces that Professor Michael Brady, a non-executive
director since March 1996, is retiring from the Board on 31 December 2003. The
search for a replacement is well advanced. Non-executive director Dr Leslie
Atkinson will take over as the Senior Independent Director.

Peter Watson, Chairman of AEA, said,

"I would like to thank Mike, who has been with AEA since before our
privatisation, for his tremendous contribution to the company over the years.
His extensive knowledge, enthusiasm and commitment have been extremely valuable
to AEA."
