Gas Plus SpA (GSP.MI) said Wednesday it won't exercise an option to buy a unit of Eni SpA (E) due to uncertainties following the Italian government's offshore drilling curbs.

In a statement, Gas Plus said it didn't exercise the option which expired Tuesday to takeover Societa Adriatica Idrocarburi SpA, which holds hydrocarbon licenses in central Italy .

Eni has put Adriatica Idrocarburi on sale as part of its drive to reduce debt and focus on international assets.
