MILAN--Italy's Saipem SpA (SPM.MI) said Tuesday that the
drilling rig Perro Negro 6 offshore Angola, sank after an accident
last night and one crew member is missing.
Saipem said that the jack up drilling rig tilted due to the
collapsing of the seabed under one of the three legs, causing water
intake.
There has been no damage to the local environment so far, the
company added.
The sinking happened at night between the coast of Angola and
Congo, near the mouth of the Congo river.
Saipem said that it is covered by insurance for the loss of
equipment, wreckage removal, as well as for any possible
environmental damages.
