Engineered Support Receives $11.3 Million for Military Trailer
Refurbishment From U.S. Army ST. LOUIS, Jan. 9
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Engineered Support Systems, Inc. received
a subcontract to remanufacture M1000 Heavy Equipment Transport
(HET) trailers that had been deployed during Operation Iraqi
Freedom in Southwest Asia. The subcontract was awarded by Oshkosh
Truck Corporation under a prime contract with the U.S. Army Tank-
automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) at Warren, Michigan using
supplemental funding provided by President Bush and the U.S.
Congress for the continued operation and "resetting" of force
readiness levels to their pre- Operation Iraqi Freedom condition.
Under the contract, the Company's Systems & Electronics Inc.
(SEI) subsidiary will remanufacture 72 M1000 HET trailers to a
"like new" condition at its West Plains, Missouri manufacturing
facility. The trailers are scheduled to be returned to the U.S.
Army by September 2004 for redeployment, according to Jerry
Daniels, Vice Chairman and CEO of Engineered Support. "The M1000
trailers returning from Iraq have demonstrated their reliability,
durability and outstanding versatility, under the extremely harsh
conditions experienced in Iraq. Under this contract, SEI will
rebuild a number of M1000 trailers using new components,
significantly extending their service life while providing our
soldiers with upgraded equipment that reliably and economically
meets mission needs at an exceptional value. With its extensive
deployment during the Iraqi conflict, we anticipate that additional
refurbishment work on the M1000 will continue well into 2005. We
look forward to working closely with our valued teammates at
Oshkosh Truck to keep the Army's fleet of M1000 HETS rolling,"
commented Daniels. The reset of the M1000 HET trailer fleet is
consistent with the identified objective of the U.S. military to
restore troop readiness levels to their condition prior to the
Iraqi deployment. Similar refurbishment or reset programs are
currently underway or are expected to be initiated on several of
the Company's support equipment products. Engineered Support will
play an integral role in this process by supplying spare parts,
refurbishment and/or new equipment as required. About M1000 HET The
