Results of 2003 US LPGA "Takefuji Classic"
As mentioned in our previous Monthly IR report, "The 4th US LPGA Takefuji
Classic" took place for three days' competition from April 17 to 19, 2003 (local
time) at spacious and scenic Las Vegas Country Club, Nevada, in U.S.A.
One of young and new players, Ms. Candie Kung from Taiwan was consistently in
a relaxed mood and had been leading the final round with sharp and accurate
shots. As a result, she beat Ms. Annika Sorenstam, the defending champion, in
keen competition, and won the first victory finishing regulation play at
12-under-par with a good score of total 204.
Among Japanese players, Ms. Akiko Fukushima received the sixth prize, which
was the best result for her in this season, and Ms. Hiromi Kobayashi and Ms.
Kasumi Fujii finished in thirtieth and sixty-second places respectively.
"Takefuji Classic" used to be held at Waikoloa Beach Course in the Big Island
of Hawaii until last year. Though the venue changed from Hawaii to Las Vegas
this time, the tournament itself came to a successful end. We would like to take
this opportunity to express thanks to Mr. Ty M. Votaw, the commissioner of LPGA,
players, staff & volunteers, media, gallery and those who have contributed to
the successful tournament for their warm support and assistance.
