Nimbus Data Systems Uses Xyratex Products in Unified IP Storage
Solutions Featuring 10 Gigabit Ethernet and SAS/SATA Support
HAVANT, United Kingdom, April 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Xyratex
Ltd. (NASDAQ:XRTX), a leading provider of storage systems for OEMs
and Solution Integrators, announced today that it has signed an OEM
agreement with Nimbus Data Systems. Under the agreement, Xyratex
supplies Nimbus Data Systems with the HS-1235 Application Platform
and the RS-1603-E3 SAS extended bunch of disks (EBOD) storage
subsystems. Nimbus integrates their HALO(TM) storage software and
advanced SAS and IP coprocessor hardware into these solutions to
create the Breeze MX4 and 10G multi-service storage systems that
offer users both iSCSI SAN and NAS capabilities in one solution.
"After considerable due diligence, we selected Xyratex based on
their business, technology and support capabilities," said Thomas
Isakovich, President and CEO of Nimbus Data Systems. "From a
business perspective, we required an OEM partner that offered a
range of proven storage solutions with superior design, quality,
and price metrics. We needed a vendor that would be able to supply
both a customizable platform and SAS EBOD along with world- class
logistics and local support capabilities -- Xyratex delivered on
all accounts." The goal behind the Nimbus Unified IP Storage vision
is to simplify storage operations and save money for small and
midsize businesses by enabling greater storage consolidation with
fewer storage hardware/software products to buy and manage. The MX4
and 10G, utilizing a modern SAS-based architecture and multiple
RAID options, offer both primary and nearline storage capabilities
using both SAS and SATA hard drives in one system. This combination
results in a very compelling price/performance advantage when
compared against alternative iSCSI storage systems. "Xyratex is
very pleased to be working with Nimbus Data Systems," added Todd
Gresham, Executive Vice President of Storage and Network Systems at
Xyratex. "Our storage systems are engineered to provide our OEMs
with building blocks that offer best-in-class features and
functionality. Nimbus has harnessed the product advantages and
added significant value by integrating their HALO software and
high-performance hardware. The Nimbus MX4 and 10G solutions offer a
clear value proposition to midsize companies looking to consolidate
SAN, NAS, primary, and nearline storage on one affordable storage
infrastructure." About Xyratex Xyratex is a leading provider of
