Portuguese energy company Energias de Portugal SA (EDP.LB) said Thursday third-quarter net profit rose 2.6% on a strong performance in its renewable-energy and Brazilian operations.

 
   MAIN FACTS:

- Net profit increased to EUR215 million in the third quarter from EUR209.5 million a year earlier. A Dow Jones Newswires poll of three analysts estimated net profit at EUR194.9 million.

- Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or Ebitda, slipped to EUR829.8 million from EUR840.8 million a year earlier.

- Ebitda at the company's unit in Brazil increased to EUR161.9 million from EUR153.9 million, while its wind power business saw Ebitda rise to EUR139.1 million from EUR130.2 million a year earlier.
