SAO PAULO--Brazil's Energias do Brasil S.A (ENBR3.BR) saw its
second-quarter profit slump as its expenses increased in the
period, it said late Wednesday in a statement.
The holding company, controlled by Energias de Portugal SA
(EDP.LB), posted a profit of 39.4 million Brazilian reais ($19
million), down from BRL128.8 million in the same period a year
earlier.
The company's expenses totaled BRL933 million in the period, up
31% from BRL711.9 million in the year-earlier period. The company's
net revenue totaled BRL1.44 billion, up from BRL1.34 billion.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization
amounted to BRL310 million, down 26.4% from the year-earlier
period.
Energias do Brasil ended the period with net debt of BRL3.08
billion, up from BRL2.49 billion.
