LISBON--Portuguese energy company Energias de Portugal SA
(EDP.LB), or EDP, Thursday said first-quarter net profit fell 1%
from a year earlier, as a result of higher taxes and
provisions.
MAIN FACTS:
-Net profit down to 335 million euros ($439.2 million) from
EUR337 million a year earlier. The result was higher than the
average EUR294.3 million estimate of three analysts polled by Dow
Jones Newswires.
-Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization,
or Ebitda, rose to EUR1.07 billion from EUR1 billion.
-Taxes rose to EUR149 million from EUR79 million a year earlier.
Provisions rose to EUR9 million from EUR3 million.
-EDP's renewable-energy division Ebitda was EUR327 million, up
from EUR263 million.
