French power utilities GDF-Suez and ADP Renewables, part of
Portugal's Energias de Portugal (EDP.LB) group, have decided to
join French nuclear technology group Areva (AREVA.FR) to submit
tenders for two offshore wind farm projects in France.
MAIN FACTS:
- The companies will bid for 500-megawatt wind farms to be built
at Le Treport, in the English Channel, and near the islands of Yeu
and Noirmoutier, on the French Atlantic coast. .
- GDF-Suez is the leading producer of wind energy in France, and
EDP Renewables is the third producer of wind power in the world.
Together, the two groups have 36,000 megawatts of installed
production capacity for renewable energy.
- The tenders will be submitted to the French Regulatory
Commission of Energy by Nov. 29. A governmental decision is
expected in 2014..
