WIN, the all-fiber Wisconsin Independent Network, has selected Ekinops for its first 100G deployment.

WIN is a full-service provider of wholesale transport and next generation IP solutions. It serves Wisconsin, eastern Minnesota, and northern Illinois through a combination of DWDM, SONET and Carrier Ethernet technologies to deliver bandwidth on a 100 percent fiber network infrastructure. A focus for WIN has been to reach smaller and under-served communities within its regional footprint.

WIN has more than 5,000 miles of fiber and offers 2.5G, 10G, and 100G wavelength services, Carrier Ethernet services from 5 Mbps to 10 Gbps, and private line DS1, DS3, and OCn services. WIN delivers reliable services and premier customer service for all of their clients supported by its highly trained 24x7 Network Management Center.

After testing multiple vendors’ 100G solutions, WIN chose Ekinops for deployment of protected 100G service, one of the first such installations in the state of Wisconsin. The challenge for WIN was that the 100G systems had to be integrated into their existing multi-vendor network, without a complete infrastructure redesign.

Ekinops' equipment is ideally suited to this type of installation, overcoming interoperability and management concerns that have held back some service providers from mixing vendors and data rates on the same links in their network.

"We selected Ekinops equipment because of how well it meets our 100G requirements," said Scott Hoffmann, CEO of WIN. "It is simple to set up and maintain, and it gives us great flexibility to augment the capacity of our existing 10G network, seamlessly. We also like the low power consumption, the small form factor and the minimal channel spacing needs of the Ekinops 360."

WIN is a founding and charter member of the Independent Alliances Telecom Group (INDATEL) trade association and Ekinops is a supplier affiliate. INDATEL, through its Rural Ethernet Exchange, extends Ethernet connectivity and reliable bandwidth solutions to rural and under-served markets via 80,000 route miles of fiber deployed across America. INDATEL and its wholesale carrier members are dedicated to providing best-in-class, cost-effective connectivity via fiber in rural and metropolitan areas.
