ArcelorMittal (MT) has sent a non-binding letter of interest for
Italian steelmaker Ilva, Reuters reported Thursday, citing union
sources.
Ilva operates Europe's largest steel plant located in the
southern Italian city of Taranto, which since last year has been
put under special administration after authorities seized EUR8.1
billion from its owners over alleged toxic emissions, the report
said.
"A letter of intent has arrived, and Arcelor will present an
industrial plan to the Italian government by the end of September,"
one of the union sources said.
ArcelorMittal and the commissioner running Ilva did not
immediately respond to requests from Reuters for comment.
