South African Rand At 15-day Low Against US Dollar

The South African rand that slumped to a 15-day low of 7.5197
against the US dollar on Tuesday's early trading stabilized in
early New York deals. As of 9:45 am ET, the dollar-rand pair was
worth 7.4625 and this may be compared to Monday's close of 7.3767.
If the rand declines further, support is likely to be seen around
the 7.5730 level.
In economic news, the Statistics South Africa announced that the
manufacturing production dropped 4.7% year-on-year in November,
compared to the 9.6% fall in the previous month, revised from 9.3%
decline estimated initially. Economists expected a decline of
5.7%.
On a monthly basis, manufacturing output rose a seasonally
adjusted 0.7% in November, compared to the 0.4% decline expected by
economists.
