South African Rand Strengthens Against Greenback

The South African rand, which closed yesterday's New York
session at 7.7346 against the US dollar, soared to a 2-day high of
7.6450 in early New York trading on Wednesday. At present, the rand
is worth 7.7126 versus the greenback.
South Africa's new vehicle sales continued to increase in May, a
latest report by the National Association of Automobile
Manufacturers (NAAMSA) showed on Wednesday.
The vehicle sales in the aggregate industry grew 35.3%
year-on-year to 39,176 units in May compared to 28,952 units a year
ago. The exceptional revival in sales of new cars and commercial
vehicles since the beginning of the year suggested that the
industry had moved into a growth mode, the industry body said.
