John Meyer, CEO and president of Acxiom® Corporation (Nasdaq:
ACXM), has been named to the board of directors of the Direct
Marketing Association (DMA). He was elected to a three-year term
Sunday during the DMA09 Annual Conference, which continues through
Thursday in San Diego.
Meyer was nominated to the board based on his leadership of
Acxiom, a $1 billion marketing services company that is reinventing
customer engagement through an intense focus on actionable
multichannel strategies anchored by deep consumer insights.
As a DMA board member, Meyer will help set direction for the
leading global trade association of multichannel direct marketing
practitioners. He will help advance the interests of marketing
professionals while also working through Acxiom to protect privacy
and promote responsible handling of consumer information.
“Direct marketing is rapidly evolving, as consumers exert more
control over how they are targeted,” said Meyer. “I look forward to
helping shape the conversation so that people feel like they’re
receiving relevant and valuable communications as well as
protection from identity theft or other misuse.”
Since joining Acxiom in early 2008, Meyer has been driving
innovation and integration within Acxiom, strengthening the
company’s end-to-end marketing capabilities and underlying
technologies. Acxiom’s solutions in online delivery and deep
consumer insights capitalize on unique technologies in data,
integration, analytics and multichannel programs to create
competitive advantage.
Meyer views the DMA’s role in privacy and other policy matters
as consistent with Acxiom’s historical leadership role built over
40 years. “The DMA helps ensure the needs of commerce are in
balance with the desires of consumers to have an active voice in
the process. I’m excited to be a part of this in my new role with
the board.”

$2.057 trillion in incremental sales. Last year, direct marketing
accounted for approximately 10 percent of total US gross domestic
