EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO; TSX: EXF) announced today that it has been named recipient of Frost & Sullivan's 2011 Global Growth Excellence Award in the Gigabit Ethernet test equipment market. The award is presented to the company that has demonstrated leadership, innovation and excellence in capturing significant market share during the last three years.
Three key performance drivers factored in Frost & Sullivan's analysis. First is that all solutions developed by EXFO attempt to address unmet customer demands, while focusing on product quality and ease of use, in order to eliminate deployment challenges and reduce the operational expenditures (OPEX) of its customers. Second, EXFO provides one of the most powerful, extensive and all-inclusive product portfolios in the Gigabit Ethernet test equipment space, empowering field technicians to achieve simple, fast and cost-effective procedures. Finally, the company constantly strives to innovate and develop new products or upgrade its existing products, in order to optimize network and service performance.
According to a recent Frost & Sullivan independent analysis, although EXFO boasts a complete product portfolio in the Gigabit Ethernet test equipment space, unique featuresβsuch as simultaneous bidirectional testing and true one-way measurementβand regular introductions have further strengthened its range and contributed highly to the company's extraordinary achievements in this market. As a result, in 2010 the company recorded a leading growth rate of 22.3 % in the global Gigabit Ethernet test equipment market, and was acknowledged by Frost & Sullivan.
"Although innovation is a core value at EXFO, equally important is how we innovateβby focusing on true current and future needs of telecom service providers. Our Gigabit Ethernet growth rate testifies to the success of this customer-centric strategy," said Étienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President of Product Management and Marketing. "EXFO played a pivotal role in the development and acceptance of the ITU-T Y.1564 standard, namely by being the first to support it through the EtherSAM test methodology. The FTB-860 NetBlazer Ethernet Tester and other recently introduced products have also gained fast market acceptance, and we are glad that our efforts were recognized by Frost & Sullivan's industry analysts."
"A key differentiator for EXFO is its market-driven approach, rather than a technology-driven approach. The company maintains close relationships with its customers in order to identify their specific requirements. Such an approach helps the company to develop custom-designed products and solutions that are in line with market requirements", said Prathima Bommakanti, Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst. "EXFO's strong focus on continuous innovation and its commitment to maximum customer satisfaction have been the key components to its success in the global Gigabit Ethernet test equipment market." EXFO Demonstrates Waveform Analysis and Bit-Error-Rate Measurement of DP-16-QAM Signal at a Record Symbol Rate of 66 GBd
In a Post-Deadline Paper to be Presented at ECOC in Geneva, Switzerland, EXFO Will Announce the Results of a Unique Experiment Where a DP-16-QAM Signal Was Characterized at a Record-Breaking 528 Gbit/s
QUEBEC CITY, Canada, Sept. 21, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO - News) (TSX:EXF.TO - News) announced today that its PSO-200 Optical Modulation Analyzer has simultaneously measured the bit error rate (BER) of a DP-NRZ-16-QAM signal beyond the industry-required forward error correction (FEC) limit and demonstrated waveform measurements using industry-standard 'word length', all at an astounding 66 GBd rate.
The result of this demonstration marks an industry first on such high-speed 16-QAM signals. Furthermore, it clearly shows that the PSO-200 not only offers the most efficient solution for characterization of 100 Gbit/s signals, but is also the most flexible approach for characterization of signals beyond 100 Gbits/s--where both multilevel QAM and higher symbol rates will likely be used.
EXFO's PSO-200 Optical Modulation Analyzer is the only instrument on the market capable of providing distortion-free characterization of phase-modulated signals for transmission rates up to 100 GBd. In addition to supporting the OIF (Optical Internetworking Forum)-recommended DP-QPSK for 100 Gbit/s transmission, the PSO-200 supports modulation schemes and baud rates that could allow transmission of signals at over 1 Tbit/s.
"EXFO has been at the forefront of 100G testing by offering several 100G-focused transport and optical test solutions as early as 2009. The performance demonstrated here shows that EXFO is always looking ahead to offer innovative and future-proof solutions to its customers," said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President, Wireline Division and Corporate Marketing. "The PSO-200 Optical Modulation Analyzer, now more than ever, addresses the needs of system developers working on next-generation networking technologies by supporting today's and tomorrow's ever-increasing demand for bandwidth."
Details on this unique experiment carried out with the PSO-200 will be presented at the ECOC Post-Deadline Session at the Geneva Palexpo Conference Centre, starting at 2:30 pm, on Thursday, September 22, 2011 (Session Th.13.B.3).

EXFO Introduces One-Way Delay Measurements to Its Comprehensive Portable Ethernet Backhaul Testing Solution
The Only Universal Portable Solution on the Market Using Any Available Reference Clock for Accurate One-Way Delay Measurement
QUEBEC CITY, Canada, Aug. 30, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO - News) (TSX:EXF.TO - News) announced today the addition of one-way delay measurement to its portable Ethernet backhaul test offering. This addition to EXFO's already unique and innovative (patent-pending) bidirectional testing functionalities further strengthens its leadership in IP/Ethernet service validation. EXFO now offers the only portable Ethernet backhaul test units to perform true one-way delay measurement, using any of the available reference clock, making it the most reliable and easy-to-use test solution--no matter where in the world.
Integrated within EXFO's EtherSAM (ITU-T Y.1564) test methodology, this enriched testing capability allows for turning up and troubleshooting Ethernet backhaul and delay-sensitive applications faster and more accurately than ever. In fact, it enables network operators and service providers to perform simultaneous one-way measurements of all key performance indicators (KPI) included in service-level agreements (SLA).
In today's complex networks, millisecond delay fluctuations can cause service to be affected, or even interrupted. One-way latency measurement is critical in such a context, since it enables the accurate validation of delay-sensitive applications such as backhaul synchronization, transactional services or voice-over-IP (VoIP); it also acts as a quality of service (QoS) assurance alternative to traditional round-trip delay measurements, which often fail to identify performance issues in asymmetrical networks.
Housed either in the FTB-200 or FTB-500 field-testing platforms, EXFO's enhanced Power Blazer modules enable network operators and service providers to validate IP/Ethernet performance and service quality--with the added flexibility of a portable solution.
"Network operators worldwide are increasingly deploying real-time applications that are delay-sensitive, creating the need for more stringent SLAs. In turn, this makes measurements such as one-way delay much more important in ensuring that KPIs are met," said Etienne Gagnon, Vice-President of EXFO's Wireline Division and Corporate Marketing. "EXFO's innovative one-way delay measurement is yet another feature that adds to a portable, simple test solution designed to effectively validate IP/Ethernet network performance and service quality."
Visit the FTB-8120NGE/8130NGE Power Blazer product page to learn everything there is to know about our enhanced IP/Ethernet service validation offering.
