Italian communications watchdog Agcom said Thursday that it has
fined Alphabet Inc.'s Google Ireland Ltd. for breaching a law
banning adverts of online gambling and gaming.
The watchdog said that Google Ireland --which oversees Google
Ads-- facilitated the placement of ads with links redirecting to
sites that offer online gambling.
According to Agcom, Google's ad placement service doesn't
qualify as web hosting but rather as a vehicle for information, and
therefore can be sanctioned.
The authority didn't specify the value of the fine.
