Common Core Reading Practice and Assessment
apps designed for at-home and classroom use
Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt™ (HMH®) today
introduced a new collection of seven elementary grade-specific
tablet apps (K-6). The Common Core Reading Practice and Assessment
apps are available for download in the App StoreSM and on Google
Play™. Designed for today’s increasingly mobile students, teachers
and families, the apps provide engaging and fun literacy exercises
and develop test-taking practice skills aligned to the ELA Common
Core State Standards (CCSS).
The Common Core Reading Practice and Assessment apps feature new
reading passages and dynamic activities, and may be used
independently or as a supplement to any reading program. Perfect
for individuals or small groups, users will find a multitude of
learning resources, including weekly practice and assessment
reading passages that integrate Science and Social Studies topics.
Texts are aligned to appropriate Lexile® levels and increase in
complexity to support literacy growth. Engaging exercises reinforce
key skills such as phonics, reading comprehension and vocabulary
acquisition, while helpful corrective feedback strengthens
test-taking strategies.
“The Common Core is a big transition, and we’re proud to be able
to provide a resource that supports students as they reinforce the
skills needed for success. With the apps, teachers can provide
extra practice for their students, and families can strengthen
young readers’ skills at home,” said Mary Cullinane, Chief Content
Officer and EVP of Corporate Affairs at HMH. “They are excellent
tools that can be used anytime, anywhere, with any reading
program.”
The apps provide authentic assessment practice for next
generation tests like PARCC and SBAC by using tech-enhanced items,
such as “drag and drop” and “tap to choose” that mirror the
assessment formats. Additionally, real-time reports on student
performance, including number of attempts and right or wrong
answers, are easily accessible online through the app’s Teacher
Resource Center.
Inspired by the pedagogy of Journeys Common Core, HMH’s
celebrated literacy program, The Common Core Reading Practice and
Assessment app is available for $1.99 per grade level in the App
Store and on Google Play. They join HMH’s large collection of
digital offerings for learners of all ages, including the Curious
About series, Collections 2015, iBooks® Textbooks, eTextbooks, and
more.
