JDSU Adds Patent-Pending TCP Wirespeed Test Features to Widely Adopted T-BERD(R)/MTS-6000A Platform

Industry's First Portable Tester with up to 10G TCP Wirespeed
Testing JDSU today introduced new features to its widely adopted
T-BERD /MTS-6000A platform, making it the first portable test
instrument to provide 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GigE) TCP Throughput
testing for up to 64 simultaneous TCP sessions while also
supporting the concurrent testing of up to four background traffic
streams (patent pending). A network operator typically conducts
traditional Layer 2/3 throughput testing before installing the
customer's service. Once the customer's service is activated,
applications such as file downloads, email, or Internet access may
not perform as expected, leading to a customer service issue. This
usually prompts a time-consuming and costly process for the network
operator to verify that the network is not the cause of the
degraded application performance. JDSU's new 10 GigE TCP Wirespeed
capabilities provide technicians with powerful throughput testing -
at Layer 4 - which can help quickly determine whether a problem is
occurring in the service provider's network or in the customer's
applications. Additionally, the TCP sessions can be captured and
decoded directly on the T-BERD/MTS-6000A display using the
Wireshark protocol analysis tool. Traditional Layer 3 throughput
testing may show that network performance is acceptable, yet issues
such as latency, improperly configured window sizes, traffic
policing, or prioritizations can drastically reduce TCP throughput
and cause application performance degradation. "With SLAs, carriers
and customers alike want to eliminate finger pointing when a
customer's applications cannot achieve the SLA throughput, and the
JDSU T-BERD/MTS-6000A helps by proving that a provider's network is
delivering on the SLA," said Jim Nerschook, vice president and
general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement
business segment. "By providing up to 64 stateful TCP sessions, the
T-BERD/MTS-6000A also provides a much more accurate assessment of
the network's ability to carry application traffic and can help
resolve customer complaints. These industry-first innovations are
the latest demonstration of JDSU's commitment to building customer
confidence in the reliable, cost-effective deployment of Carrier
Ethernet networks." The JDSU T-BERD/MTS-6000A is a compact and
lightweight test platform designed for all phases of fiber and
transport network installation and maintenance. Modular in design,
the T-BERD/MTS-6000A offers an extensive portfolio of test
functionality for multiple network layers and the Multi-Services
Application module provides an integrated solution for Ethernet,
SONET/SDH, and higher-layer tests. Optical Modules allow thorough
testing of short-haul, long-haul, FTTx, CWDM, and high-speed 40G
networks. JDSU offers a single-source Carrier Ethernet test
portfolio that facilitates analysis of all seven layers of Metro
Ethernet services. The JDSU portfolio provides the industry's
deepest set of test features in an integrated, end-to-end approach
to testing Metro Ethernet products and services, including lab and
service verification, development and production, installation and
maintenance, troubleshooting and overall service assurance. The
portfolio offer NEMs and service providers worldwide the confidence
to successfully build, deploy, and manage Ethernet and Business
Class solutions. About JDSU JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU; and TSX: JDU)
