Industry's most comprehensive set of field test products verify
Ethernet connectivity and fault management from Access to Core
networks MILPITAS, Calif., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- JDSU
today announced the release of the industry's most comprehensive
set of Ethernet OAM capabilities that enable technicians to verify
Ethernet OAM features in a Carrier Ethernet network. Available for
the JDSU T-BERD®/MTS 6000A Multi Services Application Module
(MSAM), T-BERD/MTS-8000 Transport Module, and HST-3000 Ethernet
Service Interface Module (SIM), the new capabilities help carriers
meet end-to-end service level agreements (SLAs) and deliver
differentiated Ethernet services. The continuation of
high-bandwidth triple play, Internet Protocol (IP) business and 3G
wireless service deployments drives the demand for cost-efficient
technologies like Ethernet. However, for Ethernet to become
carrier-grade, operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) must
be deployed. Ethernet OAM offers the standards and solutions
required to ensure SLAs and ease end-to-end deployment. Standards
including IEEE 802.3ah, IEEE 802.1ag, and ITU-T Y.1731 help define
Ethernet OAM functions that enable uniform installation and
maintenance of Ethernet services in a carrier-grade network.
"Ethernet OAM has become a requirement for Ethernet network
deployment because it offers the end-to-end service assurance
demanded by service providers," said Jim Nerschook, vice president
and general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement
business segment. "Adding more Ethernet OAM test capabilities to an
already strong set of JDSU products helps service providers bring
reliable services to market quickly and easily, furthering our
commitment to building customer confidence in the reliable
deployment of Carrier Ethernet networks." The new features include
the addition of link layer OAM (IEEE 802.3ah, Ethernet first mile)
and the service layer OAM (IEEE 802.1ag and ITU-T Y.1731) test
features. Designed for all technicians who install and troubleshoot
Carrier Ethernet circuits, JDSU Ethernet OAM features perform
end-to-end testing including verification of connectivity check
messages, Ethernet loopback and insertion/receipt of Ethernet
AIS/RDI alarming. JDSU offers a single-source Carrier Ethernet test
portfolio that facilitates analysis of all seven layers of
next-generation IP networks. The JDSU portfolio provides the
industry's deepest set of test features in an integrated,
end-to-end approach to testing Carrier Ethernet products and
services, including lab and service verification, development and
production, installation and maintenance, troubleshooting and
overall service assurance. The portfolio offers service providers
and NEMs the confidence to successfully build, deploy, and manage
Carrier Ethernet and Business Class solutions. For more information
