Largest High-Seas Communications Company in the U.S. Offers
Revolutionary New Satellite Communications System from KVH
MIDDLETOWN, R.I., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- KVH Industries,
Inc., (NASDAQ:KVHI) announced today that Mackay Communications,
Inc., will begin offering the new KVH TracPhone(R) V7 with
mini-VSAT Broadband(SM) service as its exclusive maritime VSAT
(very small aperture terminal) solution. The new mini-VSAT
Broadband service uses sophisticated spread spectrum technology to
provide vessels with data reception rates as fast as 2 Mbps and
data transmission rates as fast as 512 Kbps via the 24" KVH
TracPhone V7. The mini- VSAT Broadband service is fast, "always
on", and available in a variety of pricing packages that offer
significant cost savings for heavy data users when compared with
other traditional data solutions available for commercial and
leisure vessels. Mackay is the largest high-seas service company in
the U.S., providing marine services and solutions to mariners for
more than 120 years. "The addition of the KVH TracPhone V7 system
to Mackay's product line further increases the value of Mackay as
an equipment and service provider to marine customers," said Mackay
Co-President Ben Pratt. "The TracPhone V7 is absolutely the most
exciting marine satellite product to be announced in many years. It
is truly unique in the marketplace." Mariners on professional,
commercial, government and private vessels will enjoy the benefits
of the relationship between these two established leaders in the
mobile communications industry, which will provide state-of-the-art
service and equipment specifically for the marine market. The first
fully integrated maritime VSAT system, the TracPhone V7 works
seamlessly by combining innovative and revolutionary technology,
including rugged, fully stabilized antenna technology from KVH
Industries, SES AMERICOM's powerful satellite network, and
groundbreaking spread spectrum technology from ViaSat. The
TracPhone V7 -- 85% smaller and 75% lighter than 1-meter maritime
VSAT antennas -- will be of particular value to smaller commercial
ships, on which size is an issue and reliable communications are a
must. "We are thrilled to be working with a distributor like Mackay
to get the TracPhone V7 out there to the mariners who need it the
most," said Ian Palmer, KVH's executive vice president for
satellite sales. "By pairing two companies with a serious
dedication to quality and to delivering what we promise, KVH and
Mackay are taking the convenience and reliability of high-seas
satellite communications to a level that didn't exist previously."
In addition to offering the TracPhone V7 and mini-VSAT Broadband
service, Mackay will also carry KVH's award-winning line of
