Developers of MIPS-Based Designs Benefit from Faster Application
Start-up Time GRANITE BAY, Calif., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/
-- CodeSourcery, Inc. announced today that the company has joined
the MIPS(R) Alliance Program and has added support for the MIPS
architecture to the GNU/Linux prelinker. The GNU/Linux prelinker
substantially reduces application startup time. For example, when
running on a MIPS32(R) 24K(R) platform, a prelinked version of the
Firefox web browser starts 44% faster. CodeSourcery's version of
the MIPS GNU/Linux prelinker can be used by developers working on
either Microsoft Windows or GNU/Linux. "The fact that MIPS
Technologies sponsored this work shows its continued commitment to
delivering first-class GNU/Linux support for the MIPS
architecture," said Mark Mitchell, chief sourcerer of CodeSourcery.
"We're pleased that they selected CodeSourcery for this project,
and we're proud to be a MIPS Alliance Program Member. We look
forward to working with MIPS Technologies to further enhance
support for the MIPS architecture in the GNU toolchain."
"CodeSourcery has established a reputation as a leader in the
development of the GNU toolchain," said Mike Uhler, chief
technology officer at MIPS Technologies, Inc. "Its strong
relationships with the broader GNU toolchain community ensure that
the prelinker will quickly reach developers building systems with
MIPS-Based processors. We welcome CodeSourcery to the MIPS Alliance
Program." About MIPS Technologies MIPS Technologies, Inc.
