Delivering Advanced Multimedia Sharing Between
Consumer Devices With PacketVideo Bringing Real-time, Multi-screen
Gaming to Android™ Platform With TransGaming
INTERNATIONAL CES -- MIPS Technologies,
Inc.(Nasdaq:MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard
processor architectures and cores for digital home, networking and
mobile applications, announced that it is teaming with leading
providers of multimedia and interactive entertainment solutions to
enable an advanced multi-screen consumer experience on MIPS-Based™
platforms.
MIPS is working with TransGaming Inc. (TSX-V:TNG), the global
leader in the multiplatform deployment of interactive
entertainment, to bring real-time, multi-screen gaming to Android™
digital home and mobile platforms. Separately, MIPS Technologies
and PacketVideo are collaborating to deliver advanced multimedia
sharing between consumer devices. Both solutions will be
demonstrated during International CES, being held January 10 – 14,
2012.
"As the leader in processors for the digital home including DTVs
and set-top boxes, with a growing presence in mobile, it is
important to MIPS that we deliver the next-generation solutions
that will enable our licensees to offer an advanced consumer
experience. Today's consumer devices are "connected," but the next
generation of devices will go beyond that to be fully integrated
and interconnected. PacketVideo and TransGaming both supply
innovative solutions that deliver on this vision," said Gideon
Intrater, vice president of marketing, MIPS Technologies.
MIPS and PacketVideo Collaborate on Advanced Multimedia
Sharing
MIPS and PacketVideo are collaborating to bring PacketVideo's
award-winning Twonky suite of products to the MIPS® architecture.
Twonky is a family of software and applications for PCs and mobile
devices that finds all of the media collections in a household and
shares them across all of the home's internet-connected devices,
including computers and DTVs. Similar approaches are hampered by
the wide array of device types and media formats, especially video
formats. Often, a device is unable to play a certain type of file,
but this isn't clear until a consumer attempts to play the file and
receives a disappointing error message.
Twonky goes beyond traditional approaches, adding intelligence
so that devices will only "see" compatible files. In addition,
MIPS-Based digital home platforms with transcoding capability can
seamlessly translate virtually any file into a format that is
compatible with the client device, enabling consumers to experience
any available content. MIPS will provide a demonstration at CES
that will feature the Twonky server with transcoding capability and
the Twonky client running on a MIPS-Based Android tablet, showing
seamless delivery of content and access to online services across
multiple screens.
"Since MIPS processors are so prolific across the digital home,
there is a huge synergy between our solutions. We were already
working with multiple MIPS licensees to bring Twonky to their
platforms, so it just made sense for us to work directly with the
folks at MIPS. PacketVideo and MIPS share a vision of delivering a
seamless content-centric experience to consumers. With MIPS, we can
offer consumer-friendly content sharing between a wide range of
devices," said Osama AlShaykh, chief technology officer,
PacketVideo.
MIPS and TransGaming Bring Multi-screen Gaming to
Android
MIPS and TransGaming are bringing real-time, multi-screen gaming
to MIPS-Based Android devices. At CES, MIPS will demonstrate
GameTreeTM TV, a premier on-demand video game platform for Smart
TV, on a MIPS-Based set-top box (STB) platform. GameTree TV
features a broad catalog of games that are delivered from the cloud
directly into the living room. The demonstration will include a
multi-screen, multi-device interactive game leveraging the
MIPS-Based STB platform running the GameTree TV platform and a
MIPS-Based Android tablet acting as a secondary screen and game
play interface.
"We are expanding our GameTree TV platform to include support
for the breadth of MIPS-Based devices. GameTree TV delivers
captivating on-demand gaming content directly to a set-top box,
without the need for additional equipment. Since MIPS is the
worldwide leader in set-top box processors, we are working closely
with them to enable their numerous licensees to leverage our
solution. The multi-screen experiences we are delivering represent
the future of gaming, and enhance the living room social
experience. MIPS licensees who leverage our solution are clearly at
the front of the curve in delivering the consumer entertainment
experience of the future," said Blake Lewin, president,
TransGaming's Digital Home Division.
