Micro Linear Begins Production Shipments of the ML1900 PHS
Transceiver SAN JOSE, Calif., April 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Micro Linear Corporation (NASDAQ:MLIN), a leading supplier of
digital wireless integrated circuits, announced today that it has
begun volume production shipments of its ML1900 advanced Personal
Handyphone System (PHS) transceiver to a major manufacturer of PHS
handsets for the China market. The ML1900 is a complete transceiver
which integrates transmit, receive, and synthesizer functionality,
and is now the first PHS transceiver in volume production that
includes an integrated power amplifier. The Company believes that
its advanced low-IF receiver architecture provides high performance
without external filters. The ML1900, the first of Micro Linear's
ML19XX product family, is one of the first PHS transceivers to
support the new PHS seamless handover requirement. In addition, the
Company believes the ML19XX family has a clear advantage over many
competitors in being able to interface with virtually any PHS
baseband, thus minimizing both time-to-market and re- engineering
costs for existing handset manufacturers. "We are very excited
about having begun volume shipments of the ML1900," commented Tim
Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Micro Linear.
"Once again, Micro Linear has demonstrated our ability to develop
and release complex RF integrated circuits for high volume,
cost-sensitive markets in record time. We expect production volumes
to ramp quickly, while meeting our customers' quality standards and
cost expectations." The PHS market has been rapidly expanding in
China, where the subscriber base is estimated to have reached 72
million by March of 2005 and is projected to grow at 2-3 million
per month. With the recent addition of new features such as PIM
cards (number portability), fast hand off capability (roaming),
color displays, cameras, and advanced ring tones etc., the Company
anticipates that the PHS system will compete well with other
cellular systems. As a result, the China PHS market is expected to
remain robust, and because of its low infrastructure and
operational costs, PHS technology is expected to continue to be
adopted in numerous countries around the world. About Micro Linear:
