Internal Roll-Out Provides Foundation for BAE Systems to Offer ITSM
Solution Based on Maximo IT Service Management MRO Software, Inc.
(Nasdaq: MROI), the leading provider of asset and service
management solutions, today announced that its IT Service
Management platform, Maximo IT Service Management (ITSM), has been
successfully deployed for live operation at BAE Systems Information
Technology, a full-service solutions provider of information
systems and services. In addition, the two companies announced that
BAE Systems will be offering an integrated ITIL-based solution
built on Maximo ITSM. On behalf of BAE Systems' U.S.-based
businesses, the company's information technology unit is leading an
initiative to in-source and integrate enterprise-wide IT service
delivery as the model for the next generation of its service
offering to external customers. Last year, BAE Systems conducted a
thorough analysis of available industry solutions for IT service
delivery management, including Gartner Consulting to identify
leading solution vendors and to define an appropriate maturity
model within the ITIL framework. Three primary considerations were
the suitability to implement BAE Systems' ITIL processes, the time
required to implement, and the ease of integration with other
products providing service delivery (such as network, server, and
desktop management tools). A detailed proposal evaluation among
four finalists resulted in the selection and procurement of Maximo
ITSM in December 2005. BAE Systems and MRO Software worked together
to complete the first implementation phase of the Maximo ITSM
solution. BAE Systems will use this solution for its internal IT
service and support. The first phase solution includes service
support for network operations and information assurance with
Maximo Service Desk handling service requests, incident management,
and an online solutions library. A second phase, scheduled for this
quarter, will include change and configuration management. This
solution replaces an existing third-party service desk and IT
Service Management solution originally deployed within BAE Systems.
For internal and external customers BAE Systems is committed to
CMMI process structure and maturity, achieving CMMI Level 3 in 2004
at its McLean, Va. facility. The company has invested in ITIL
processes, training, and certification as the foundation for its
offering to the market. Plans call for BAE Systems to build on the
experience that its IT business develops integrating the Maximo
ITSM product to provide a comprehensive IT Service Delivery
Management solution among its offerings to external customers. This
offering will be available in the second half of this year. "We
believe that there is a good opportunity to deliver an IT Service
Management solution to the many markets we serve," said Steve
Hanau, vice president and general manager, BAE Systems Information
Technology. "The first phase of the Maximo implementation has gone
well, and we look forward to the improved functionality within our
internal operations. We will leverage the expertise we're
developing as we roll out this offer to our customers and
prospects." Mark Gruzin, vice president, Public Sector, MRO
Software said, "BAE Systems was able to implement Maximo ITSM in a
very short time frame - just a few weeks from product receipt to
live operation. This successful roll-out within a complex
enterprise like BAE Systems provides a good set of benchmarks for
us as we work with them to offer this solution to their customer
base. We look forward to building on our knowledgebase and
providing BAE Systems with the functionality it requires to offer a
robust ITSM solution to its demanding customers." About MRO
