CANTON, Mass., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NEI (Nasdaq: NENG), a leading provider of application platforms and lifecycle support services for software developers, OEMs and service providers worldwide, today announced that it has developed a portfolio of customized Dell PowerEdge solutions for the telecommunications market. NEI designed and built the Dell solutions to address the high availability and performance requirements of the telecommunications market, as well as to achieve greater energy efficiency.

"NEI has been working closely with Dell to support its expanding footprint in the telecommunications market," said Jeff Hudgins, vice president of marketing for NEI. "NEI is able to provide unique value by extending the PowerEdge platforms to position them to meet the demanding high-reliability, battery back-up and NEBS requirements of server farms and telecommunications central office environments. The Dell-NEI technical cooperation has allowed Dell to focus on the ongoing development of its advanced platform suite while expanding its available market and shortening the time to delivery of competitive -48 volt solutions."

Dell tapped NEI to provide the design, integration, manufacturing and regulatory testing services for its new telecommunications offerings. To date, the portfolio of NEI-manufactured Dell-based solutions includes:

DC-Powered:

  • E-2710, a Dell PowerEdge R710 platform modified for DC-power operation. It features Intel's® Xeon® 5600 series microprocessor and dynamically scales power usage to the workload to achieve greater energy efficiency. The highly available, open-standard E-2710 delivers the speed, computing power and flexibility the market demands for green-compliant data center and carrier-class central office technologies.
  • S-2510, a DC-powered version of Dell's R-510 2U storage platform for mission-critical security, storage, networking and communications applications. With storage scalable up to 24 TB, redundant AC or DC power and up to four PCIe slots, the highly available, open-standard S-2510 is ideal for applications that require high performance, expansion and storage coupled with efficient power consumption. The S-2510 also utilizes Intel's Xeon 5600 series processors in combination with state-of-the-art power optimization technologies to achieve greater energy efficiency than previous generations.

NEBS-Certified:

  • N-2710, a DC-powered NEBS Level 3 certified carrier-grade rack mount server with enhanced cooling, rails, bezel and mechanical provisioning for seismic conditions. The N-2710 provides dual socket support for Intel Xeon 5600 Series Processors and combines high performance with power efficiency to deliver improved performance-per-watt over previous generation rack-mount servers. The ruggedized N-2710 is specifically designed for the demanding telco central office environment, as well as highly available data centers and enterprise networks. With expansion capability to comprise up to four PCIe I/O cards, this NEBS server allows VARS, ISVs, NEMs, and OEMs to bring lower-cost communications solutions and services to market.

NEI's Element Manager 3.0 is certified on all these platforms and used to activate health monitoring, remote updates and backup/restore capabilities. All three systems also fully support Dell's Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) for remote systems management.
