Business Wire
OSI Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:OSIS), today announced that its Chairman
and CEO, Deepak Chopra, will testify before the United State House
of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security, regarding
"Leveraging Technology to Improve Homeland Security." The panel
testimony is expected to be held at 2 p.m. EST (11 a.m. PST) on
Wednesday, July 13, 2005. The testimony will highlight Rapiscan
Systems' airport checkpoint technologies and recent advances in
inspection technologies that can improve checkpoint security and
passenger flow. Mr. Chopra will discuss the importance of
installing new systems at airport checkpoints that increase
detection capabilities, fit within current airport infrastructure
and facilitate air travel while minimizing inconveniences to the
traveling public. The testimony will also highlight four of
Rapiscan Systems' technologies: -- QXR 1000 -- The QXR 1000
integrates Rapiscan's current checkpoint baggage x-ray systems with
Quadrupole Resonance technology for automatic explosives detection.
The technology's ability to integrate with existing baggage x-ray
systems reduces the need to purchase new x-ray machines or hire
additional TSA screeners. -- Secure 1000 -- The Secure 1000,
utilizing Rapiscan's patented backscatter technology, is a
groundbreaking personnel screening technology that can detect
explosives, plastic weapons and any other concealed foreign objects
on the body. During the testimony, Mr. Chopra will also discuss
some of the findings of the recently completed 6 month pilot
program conducted by the British Airport Authority of the Secure
1000 at Heathrow airport in the United Kingdom. -- Checkpoint
Efficiency System (CES) -- The CES easily integrates with current
checkpoint x-ray baggage inspection systems to facilitate the flow
of passengers through airport checkpoints. The system allows for
the continued inspection of passengers and their carry-on items as
other passengers and bags are selected for secondary screening. --
CXR 1000 -- The CXR 1000 is the next-generation of CT hold baggage
screening technologies. The system will inspect up to 1,400 bags an
hour and can be integrated in-line with the existing airport
baggage handling conveyor infrastructure, unlike existing deployed
technologies which require the infrastructure to be reconfigured.
The CXR 1000 is a solid state CT with no moving gantry. The
testimony will be webcast by the Committee and can be accessed
through www.house.gov. A transcript of the testimony will be
available either through the Committee website at
www.homeland.house.gov or at www.osi-sytems.com. About Rapiscan
