Spacelabs Healthcare, Inc., a subsidiary of OSI Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq:OSIS), today announced its Monitoring Solutions Division
has released a new wireless networking option for its UltraviewSL
2400 compact monitors. As part of the company's commitment to open
standards and connectivity, Spacelabs has developed an innovative
wireless solution that is capable of operating on a hospital's
existing wireless infrastructure while coexisting with other
wireless applications. The product will initially be launched in
the U.S. and Canada with planned worldwide distribution scheduled
for the spring in 2006. The product has been designed to meet
customer needs for ease of use and compatibility with global
standards, the UltraviewSL 2400 wireless monitor is compliant with
802.11b, the WiFi standard that has gained broad acceptance within
health care institutions worldwide. A field upgrade kit has also
been released enabling existing UltraviewSL 2400 compact monitors
to operate in a wireless environment. Wireless and telemetry
products comprise the fastest growing segment of the patient
monitoring market; a global market that is valued in excess of
USD$2.3 billion annually by industry forecasters. Spacelabs
Healthcare CEO Deepak Chopra said, "Developing a wireless network
option for the UltraviewSL 2400 is an exciting step for the Company
and demonstrates the continual review and advancement of our
product portfolio to ensure we meet the needs of our customers. A
wireless network capability is increasingly important for
clinicians to access and document real-time patient information
even during transport, helping them make critical decisions quickly
and seamlessly. We believe this wireless monitor will be a
significant new addition to our patient monitoring offering." In
patient transport, when surveillance of critically ill patients may
be most challenging, wireless connectivity is particularly
important. By employing wireless monitoring, vital signs data can
be displayed and viewed on central monitors while patients are
being moved, enhancing patient safety and emergency response
capabilities. In addition, wireless connectivity allows for
continued, seamless collection of patient data into Spacelabs'
Intesys(R) Clinical Suite (ICS) of network applications, helping
minimize interruptions in automated documentation. The UltraviewSL
2400 wireless monitor provides a flexible solution that enables
hospitals to augment the number of networked bedside monitors when
extra capacity is needed. The new monitor has full network
compatibility with all existing Spacelabs UltraviewSL, Ultraview
and PCMS centrals and bedside monitors. About Spacelabs Healthcare,
