QSFT Quest Software, Inc. (MM)

Dell Inc. (DELL) is in talks to buy business-software maker Quest Software Inc. (QSFT), which in March agreed to be acquired by Insight Venture Partners, a private-equity and venture capital firm, for $2 billion, Bloomberg News reported Friday on its website, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based Quest earlier this month said it received offers during a "go-shop" period following the Venture Partners pact.

Spokesmen for Dell and Venture Partners declined comment to Bloomberg. Quest didn't respond to a request for comment, Bloomberg reported.
