Red Hat, Inc. (NASDAQ: RHAT), the world's leading provider of open
source solutions to the enterprise, today announced the second
annual Red Hat Government Users Conference on Nov. 8, 2006, in
Washington, DC. Open source integration, security, service-oriented
architectures (SOA) and storage will be the top priorities on the
agenda at the 2006 conference as users from defense, civilian
agencies and other areas of the federal government meet to share
new strategies for maximizing the capabilities of Linux and open
source technologies. The event, hosted by DLT Solutions, is
designed to help government and academic end-users meet their
specific needs and find the right solutions as the prevalence of
open source solutions in the public sector continues to surge. In a
June 2006 report, IDCs Government Insights unit predicts that the
Linux share of the U.S. governments enterprise server market will
rise from 11.6 percent in 2004 to 15.2 percent by 2009. "Government
agencies at all levels are applying secure open source platforms to
manage complex information systems and more effectively deliver
services to citizens," said Paul Smith, vice president of
government sales operations, Red Hat. "The Red Hat Government Users
Conference is designed to address the particular challenges faced
by government as well as academic institutions." At the conference,
held at the Reagan Building and International Trade Center,
attendees will discover open source advancements across broad
topics like virtualization, security and developer tools; gain a
deeper understanding on specific technology areas like storage,
clustering, SOA and identity integration; and try tools that can
help better manage Linux systems in the Test Drive Lab. In
afternoon keynote remarks at the conference, Michael Tiemann, open
source software pioneer and Red Hats vice president of open source
affairs, will provide perspectives from his recent paper, "Software
Industry vs. Software Society: Who Wins in 2020?," discussing the
lasting effects of the open source community not only on increased
software development capacity and better quality software, but as a
sustainable model for revolutionary innovation. The opening keynote
will include remarks from Paul Smith, vice president of government
sales and operations at Red Hat, and Rick Marcotte, CEO of DLT
Solutions, as well as presentations from HP and Intel. IBM will
sponsor a secure computing panel during one of six breakout
sessions at the conference. Other featured speakers include Pierre
Fricke, director of product management for Red Hat's JBoss SOA
products, Brian Stein, engineering manager of emerging technologies
at Red Hat, and Rob Kenna, senior product manager for Red Hat
Cluster Suite, Red Hat Global File System and storage. As a premier
government solutions partner, DLT delivers unparalleled customer
service with superior expertise in core product areas and a
first-hand understanding of the applications and technology needed
to make operations more efficient. Since 1991, DLT's focused
approach has allowed the delivery of top-notch technical and
