Broadcom Joins RSA SecurID Ready for Authenticators Program; RSA
SecurID Technology to be Embedded within New Broadcom(R) BCM5890
Secure Processor BEDFORD, Mass., June 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
RSA Security (NASDAQ:RSAS) today announced that Broadcom
Corporation (NASDAQ:BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for
wired and wireless communications, has joined the RSA SecurID Ready
for Authenticators program -- an extension of the trusted RSA
Secured(R) Partner Program. As part of this, Broadcom plans to
license RSA SecurID technology for integration within the new
Broadcom(R) BCM5890 secure processor. Launched today, Broadcom's
BCM5890 is a secure silicon processor with integrated radio
frequency identification (RFID) technology. By embedding RSA
SecurID technology within the BCM5890 secure processor, Broadcom
will enable its customers to leverage native support for one-time
passcodes (OTPs). "Broadcom's customers are continually under
pressure to deliver solutions to the enterprise that solve real IT
problems," said Joseph Wallace, Senior Director for Broadcom's
Security Line of Business. "By embedding RSA SecurID technology
into the BCM5890, Broadcom would enable unique and substantially
more effective solutions to businesses trying to protect identities
and information." Launched in February 2006, the RSA SecurID Ready
for Authenticators program supports RSA Security's effort to foster
ubiquitous stronger authentication. The program enables partners,
such as Broadcom, to transform their own solutions into platforms
for stronger authentication by embedding the RSA SecurID algorithm.
By doing so, RSA Security and its partners can offer enterprises
greatly expanded options for delivering stronger authentication to
employees, customers and partners. In addition, these partnerships
can present cost-savings opportunities as enterprises can leverage
a single device (e.g., hardware built around the BCM5890 secure
processor) to support additional capabilities. "As businesses
manage increasingly sophisticated security threats, there is a
growing recognition of the need to strongly protect identities and
information. However, these new threats have completely reshaped
the IT security landscape -- customers understand that
one-size-fits-all is not sufficient, and demand flexible,
cost-effective technology options," said John Worrall, senior vice
president of marketing at RSA Security. "In our partnership with
Broadcom, we will work to address this market reality by offering
an integrated solution, which will help enterprises balance
convenience, security and costs when deploying stronger
authentication." About RSA Security Inc. RSA Security Inc. is the
