Satcon (NASDAQ CM: SATC), a leading provider of utility scale
distributed power solutions for the renewable energy market,
announced today that it has provided its PowerGate Plus
photovoltaic (PV) inverters for the San Jose Unified School
District installations, the largest K-12 solar and energy
efficiency project in the United States. The 5.5 megawatt project
is providing power to 14 district sites and is helping to reduce
energy costs by more than 30 percent.
Chevron Energy Solutions designed, built, and is operating the
system utilizing Satcons PowerGate Plus inverters to generate
utility-scale power that will help save the school district $25
million over the 25-year life of the project. Annually, the project
is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 100,000 metric
tons, which is equivalent to planting more than 1,400 acres of
trees.
San Jos Unified School District is a prime example of how
educational institutions can combine solar and energy efficiency
programs to achieve environmental benefits and cost savings, which
is especially important in these economic times, said Jim Davis,
president of Chevron Energy Solutions. We are pleased to have the
opportunity to work with Satcon on this project that is generating
clean, renewable power.
This program demonstrates the growing adoption of solar energy
as a practical and reliable energy source for both large-scale
industrial players as well as non-profit and educational
institutions, said Pete DeGraff, Vice President of Sales and
Marketing at Satcon. In working closely with Chevron Energy
Solutions, we were able to develop a system that will deliver
clean, reliable and cost effective energy to the San Jose Unified
School District.
The PV system was dedicated at Willow Glen Middle School and
High School in San Jose, CA on February 5th.
