Symmetricom Scientists to Speak at 34th Annual NIST Time and Frequency Metrology Seminar
May 27 2009 - 8:00AM
Business Wire
Symmetricom, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMM), a worldwide leader in precise
time and frequency technologies that accelerate the deployment and
enable the management of next generation networks, today announced
that Dr. Samuel Stein, chief technologist, and Dr. Robert Lutwak,
senior scientist for Symmetricoms Timing, Test & Measurement
Division, are invited speakers at the 34th Annual NIST Time and
Frequency Metrology Seminar, Tuesday, June 2 Friday, June 5,
2009. Located at the National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST) Laboratories, the 4-day seminar will discuss characteristics
of clocks and oscillators, making precise time and frequency
measurements and synchronizing precision time systems.
WHO:
Dr. Samuel Stein, chief technologist and Dr. Robert Lutwak,
senior scientist at Symmetricoms Timing, Test & Measurement
Division
WHAT:
34th Annual NIST Time and Frequency Metrology Seminar
WHEN:
Tuesday, June 2 Friday, June 5, 2009
WHERE:
NIST Boulder Laboratories, 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305
Dr. Stein will be presenting, Digital Measurements of PM-Noise
of Precision Oscillators on Wednesday, June 3, from 11:00 a.m.
12:00 p.m. MDT. Digital phase noise measurements are made by
converting RF signals to digital samples. The use of numerical
techniques for phase detection and analysis improves measurement
accuracy and allows simultaneous evaluation of phase noise and
short-term stability. Prior to joining Symmetricom in 2006, Dr.
Stein was the founder, president and CEO of Timing Solutions
Corporation. He has over 30 years of experience in the time and
frequency field and has made numerous contributions to precision
time measurement technology and new time transfer techniques.
Dr. Lutwak will be presenting An Introduction to Atomic
Frequency Standards on Thursday, June 4, from 8:15 a.m. 9:00
a.m. MDT. Atomic frequency standards provide the ultimate source of
accuracy and stability for all modern communications, navigation
and time-keeping systems. His presentation will have a particular
emphasis on mature technologies including rubidium oscillators,
cesium beam frequency standards and hydrogen masers. Dr. Lutwak
worked for NIST prior to joining Symmetricoms Technology
Realization Center. He has led projects developing next generation
atomic clock technology for deployment onboard the GPS-NAVSTAR
satellite constellation as well as chip-scale atomic clocks, 100
times smaller and lower power than existing technologies.
