Symmetricom Awarded Frost & Sullivan's 2012 Global Technology
Innovation Award
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Symmetricom®, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMM), a worldwide leader in
precision time and frequency technologies, today announced that it
has been awarded Frost & Sullivan's 2012 Global Technology
Innovation Award for its accomplishments in LTE synchronization.
This recognition validates that Symmetricom's end-to-end solutions
have defined a new standard in supporting the strict timing and
synchronization requirements for successful LTE and LTE-Advanced
rollouts.

LTE deployments require Ethernet/IP in backhaul networks. This
migration from SONET/SDH to Ethernet/IP creates complexity in
achieving reliable timing and synchronization, which is critical to
the reliable delivery of voice, data, location-based services and
other applications on LTE networks. To reap the benefits of
Ethernet backhaul, networks must support stringent frequency and
phase requirements, and embrace packet timing protocols such as
IEEE 1588 (PTP) to support 4G/LTE services.
"Frost & Sullivan's analysis clearly shows that Symmetricom
has set new standards in LTE synchronization by successfully
conducting the industry's first LTE synchronization
interoperability tests over IPv6," said Frost &
Sullivan Senior Research Analyst Mariano Kimbara. "With the telecommunications
industry rapidly migrating from 3G networks to LTE/4G networks and
backhaul providers shifting from TDM to IP and Ethernet-based
infrastructures, Symmetricom's industry-leading solutions in
network synchronization and timekeeping are crucial in shaping the
future of the industry."
The Technology Innovation Award is presented to the company that
has excelled in the following five key criteria: uniqueness of
technology, impact on new products/applications, impact on
functionality, impact on customer value and relevance of innovation
to industry.
Symmetricom's technology and market contributions in LTE
synchronization includes a robust product portfolio consisting of a
broad range of systems and embedded software solutions that extend
from the network core to small cells. Innovations include
delivering the industry's highest capacity PTP Grandmaster, first
multi-sync SoftClock client for network infrastructure, macro cells
and small cells, rubidium atomic clocks and the industry-leading
synchronization management solution.
"Earning Frost & Sullivan's prestigious Technology
Innovation Award is a major accomplishment for Symmetricom," said
Manish Gupta, vice president of
marketing and business development. "It validates our investments
and innovations to establish a new benchmark for the deployment of
precise end-to-end synchronization to support 4G/LTE services."
Symmetricom has led the global implementation of the
packet-based IEEE 1588 timing protocol with more than 150 network
deployments to date. And in response to market needs to deliver a
seamless solution, Symmetricom established the
SyncWorld® Ecosystem Program, which focuses on
interoperability and cooperation among network equipment vendors
throughout the mobile communications value chain to ensure that
advanced networking requirements are met.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize
