Agreement Helps Enterprises with IP-based PBX network environments
improve 9-1-1 call handling for their employees NEW YORK, Feb. 2
/PRNewswire/ -- XTEND Communications Corp., a provider of Computer
Telephony Integration (CTI) and Public Safety Answering Point
(PSAP) systems, today announced an agreement with Intrado Inc.
(NASDAQ:TRDO), a global provider of integrated data and
telecommunications solutions and leading provider of VoIP 9-1-1
services. Together the two organizations will break new ground by
providing VoIP Enhanced 9-1-1 services to the enterprise market.
Under terms of the agreement, XTEND Communications will market
Intrado V9-1-1(R) for Enterprise to large businesses that operate
and support their own VoIP-based telephone networks. The
introduction of IP technology into the PBX environment enables
large enterprises to support a host of new applications and
capabilities, such as providing employees with the flexibility to
work in remote locations, working in nomadic environments, or
establishing branch locations that are networked with a main
location for off-network calling. However, the technology also
creates a challenge in terms of 9-1-1 services, as the exact
location of the 9-1-1 caller can no longer be easily identified.
This partnership solves this problem for remote users and directs
9-1-1 calls to the correct public safety answering point (PSAP).
With the integration of Intrado V9-1-1(R) for Enterprise and
XTEND's Enterprise Alert(TM), the solution removes the complexity
of providing E9-1-1 in an IP-based environment. This allows
employees who are remote and using an IP softphone to access their
organization's private network the ability to gain critical E9-1-1
support, identifying the caller's actual location, not the location
of the enterprise's PBX. "Until recently, we were able to provide
only a limited level of 9-1-1 services that are required for the
complex enterprise IP-PBX environments," said Bill Schwartz,
President of XTEND Communications Corp. "By teaming up with
Intrado, we can seamlessly deploy a superior 9-1-1 solution to our
customers, enabling them to leverage the full value of their
IP-based equipment." This comprehensive solution manages all
aspects of 9-1-1 support from provisioning the caller's current
location to successfully routing and delivering the call to the
geographically appropriate PSAP assigned to handle the emergency.
The location and call back number can be updated whether the caller
is moving between locations, working remotely or tied to a specific
remote location. "Intrado is pleased to work with XTEND
Communications to bring a proven and cost effective E9-1-1 solution
to enterprises," said Stephen Meer, Intrado co-founder and chief
technology officer. "With this agreement, we can offer enterprises
the tools to provide the highest level of quality and reliable
emergency service to its employees." About XTEND Communications
