Site59 Releases Survey Results on Reasons People Travel Last Minute
What Is It About the Last-Minute Market That Makes People Want to
Get Up And Go? NEW YORK, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- There's a reason
behind every spontaneous travel decision: A recent Site59 poll
reveals that 26% of travelers -- the largest segment -- opted to
take a spur-of-the-moment trip just for fun. In asking what
inspired their customers to be "last-minute" travelers, Site59
uncovered myriad reasons that explain the growingpopularity of
spur- of-the-moment trips booked though the Internet. In 2003, over
42 million people purchased travel online -- up 8% from 2002,
according to the Travel Industry Association of America. Other
findings from the poll that surveyed about 1,400 consumers included
the following: 22% wanted to visit family or friends, 9% were
stressed and needed a vacation, 11% made a spontaneous decision to
attend an event, 5% wanted to surprise someone, and 2% were
searching for better weather. Another7% percent of those polled
reported that Site59 bargains were just too good to pass up. "Not
only did your site save me an incredible amount of money, but it
was flawless," said Nancy DeCristofano, who responded to the poll.
"Life doesn't always allow for advanced planning," said Bob Albert,
General Manager of Site59. "Our bargain weekend packages are
getting people to travel more often than they used to, and that's
benefiting the entire industry." Consumers are willing to make
travel plans with little notice -- even same day or one to three
days in advance, which accounts for 61% of Site59 sales. According
to the most recent study by the Travel Industry Association of
America, 64% of leisure travelers planned at least one trip within
just two weeks of departure. The Site59 study is encouraging to
suppliers, as it indicates that consumers are willing to explore
vacation options on a whim. Site59 uniquely helps travelers who may
not have a set destination in mind by offering an array of travel
ideas for this weekend and next, organized by categories, such as
under $250, beach vacations, and luxury getaways -- to name just a
few. About SITE59(R) Named for the 59th or last minute, SITE59(R)
