TCS Issued Patent for Coordinating Data for Applications
September 16 2008 - 11:45AM

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading
provider of mission-critical wireless communications, today
announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued patent
number 7,426,535 for "Coordination of Data Received From One Or
More Channels Into A Single Context."
This TCS invention allows data from multiple sources to be
coordinated into one reply to the request from a user. An example
of the invention is a user asking for directions to a restaurant
from a current location via a wireless or telematics device. The
request for directions represents partial data to respond to the
request. The user's precise location via GPS data, for instance, is
another data source that must be coordinated. Other data sources
that may be coordinated could include a user's preferences for
restaurant types as well as coupons or promotions that come from
other data sources.
"The invention is useful in many applications that require data
from different sources to be coordinated and combined," said Drew
Morin, Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer for TCS.
"Location applications are a prime example of where this invention
can be used, as almost all user requests will have precise location
information associated with the request coming from another
source."
TCS now holds 62 patents with 194 applications pending.
About The Invention
The "Coordination of Data Received From One Or More Channels
Into A Single Context" patent describes a method and apparatus to
receive a request from a user device at a coordination manager,
determining whether the requests has all of the information
necessary to respond, and then coordinating the necessary data to
reply to the request. The invention further provides a way to
combine all of the data into a single message and transmit the data
to one or more destinations.
