ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/
-- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a
world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication
technology, today announced that TCS Product Marketing Manager
Rick Ruth will serve as a technical
representative on the "Vendor Solutions" panel at the upcoming
Wireless Public Alerting Dissemination (WPAD) Workshop on
June 14 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Through the WPAD
Workshop, organizers will bring together key industry stakeholders,
discuss updates on public alerting developments and provide a
learning forum for best practices from the U.S. Commercial Mobile
Alert System (CMAS).
News Facts:
- CMAS, a voluntary U.S. national mobile emergency alert system
that is designed to deliver critical messages to the public, was
established by the WARN Act in 2006.
- Mr. Ruth, a telecommunications industry expert, will provide
technical insight regarding CMAS, including deployment challenges
that have been overcome in the U.S., carrier education
opportunities, the need for handset availability and frequently
asked questions from a consumer standpoint.
- TCS has worked closely with the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA), and its CMAS Gateway product is FEMA certified, with
full compliance to the J-STD-101 "C"
interface specification, and is independently validated and
verified by FEMA.
- As one of the few vendors serving national mobile network
operators, the U.S. government and public safety officials, TCS
provides mission-critical, life-saving technology that is currently
deployed and field tested with national and regional commercial
mobile service providers.
Over the past year, TCS' highly reliable and secure mobile
communication technology powered the delivery of nearly 800 billion
text messages and over 65 million wireless emergency calls. TCS
wireless technology also serves U.S. military customers with
mission-critical solutions, supporting next generation emergency,
text messaging and location-based solutions. TCS operates the only
non-operator TL 9000-certified network operations centers
supporting E9-1-1. Wireless operators across the United States and abroad use TCS emergency
alerting technology. A member of the TIA and ATIS standards bodies,
TCS has been actively involved in CMAS-related standards working
sessions since January 2008.
