                                 AGM STATEMENT

Kelvin MacKenzie, Chairman and Chief Executive of The Wireless Group plc (owner
of the Number One commercial radio station in the UK, talkSPORT), said at the
company's annual general meeting today:

"talkSPORT is now trading profitably for the first time in its history. The
Wireless Group bought the station in November 1998, when it was losing #11
million a year. (In fact, it had been operating at a loss for every year since
it began broadcasting in February 1995.)

"The station was relaunched from Talk Radio to talkSPORT in January 2000 and
now, in the first six months of this year, talkSPORT has made an operating
profit, where there was an operating loss of #550,000 for the same period last
year.

"This is the second piece of good news for talkSPORT as it has only recently
been recognised as the Number One commercial station in the UK. A national
survey of radio and TV audiences, conducted by research company GfK Media, shows
that talkSPORT has a weekly reach of 8 million adult listeners, more than rival
national commercial broadcaster Classic FM and almost double the audience of the
only other national commercial station, Virgin Radio.

"This is a momentous moment in the history of talkSPORT. It is clear in terms of
both profitability and audience that the station has turned the corner and that
is a significant milestone for the radio industry as a whole, marking the first
time that commercial speech as a format has been profitable in this country
(bringing it into line for the first time with the radio industry in the US and
Australia).

"The Wireless Group has applied for the FM licence in the West Midlands with a
similar speech format and believes that this could be the start of a
long-overdue expansion of populist, commercial speech radio stations that will
successfully challenge the monopoly of the BBC.

"What is also gratifying today is the news that in terms of current trading The
Wireless Group's revenues are up 1.4% for the six months to June against the
same period in the previous year, which included significant additional revenues
from the World Cup."
