New WiderThan 3G Message Personalization Services Offer Users
Enhanced Options for Mobile Communication LOS ANGELES and SEOUL,
Korea, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WiderThan (NASDAQ:WTHN),
a leading global provider of integrated mobile entertainment
solutions for wireless carriers, announced two new 3G
personalization services, Caller Tag and Photo SMS (short message
service). The services use global mobile standards and are now
available for wireless carriers in the U.S. and Europe, Middle East
and Africa. With Photo SMS, wireless users can have an image or
photo sent with their text message. The sender simply types a text
message using SMS, and the receiver is delivered an MMS (multi
media service) by having the Photo SMS service automatically
combine the text with pre-defined photo images and converting to an
MMS message. This service enhances the simple text messaging by
adding a visual aspect to text messages making them more fun and
personal. Currently, more than one million SK Telecom subscribers
are using a similar service in Korea. Photo SMS provides an
additional revenue stream for wireless carriers, boosts messaging
usage, raises awareness of MMS services, and improves revenue for
MMS services. "We've had great success in developing and
implementing innovative mobile solutions in the advanced Korean
mobile market. With increasing convergence in the personalization
services area, we continue to expand and localize personalization
services offerings for users in global markets," said Sang Jun
Park, CEO of WiderThan. The Caller Tag service allows mobile users
to personalize their caller identification information and delivers
that information on the receiving party's mobile phone while
ringing. When receiving a call, the recipient is delivered a
pre-defined caller created message in addition to the calling
party's phone number, as provided with current caller ID services.
The service platform supports open IT standards and can be easily
integrated with wireless carrier's existing system. "Similar
services have enjoyed over 23 percent subscriber adoption in Korea,
and are a natural next step to the Calling Name service so popular
in the United States, said Vern Poyner, CEO, WiderThan Americas.
"We are pleased to announce two new communication options and
proven 3G revenue streams for valued customers in the U.S. and
globally." WiderThan will present flash and live demos of the
Caller Tag and Photo SMS services at the CTIA Wireless I.T. &
Entertainment Show (Booth #1039) from September 12 - 14, 2006 at
the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles. About WiderThan
