Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. and Xilinx, Inc. on Thursday said they now expect AMD's planned acquisition of Xilinx to close in the first quarter of next year.

"We continue making good progress on the required regulatory approvals to close our transaction," the companies said. "Our conversations with regulators continue to progress productively, and we expect to secure all required approvals."

In October 2020, AMD said it planned to buy rival chip maker Xilinx Inc. in a $35 billion all-stock deal.
